1 Corinthians 10: Baptism Article Caveat

We're reading 1 Cor. 10 today in our "2026 New Testament Reading Plan." Usually, you receive a link straight to the webpage with an article/video to pair with the reading. Today is different, though.

The Bible Project material is certainly very helpful and takes complex topics and distills them down into easy-to-understand ways. However, from time to time, it's important to give some clarifications and caveats as we consume their material. Today is one such time.

Below, you'll find a button to click that will take you to an article regarding baptism. This article is very helpful and connects some important Bible themes. At the conclusion of the article, though, the authors mention that some Christians have different practices of baptism. They note that sometimes Christians baptize by immersion and other times by sprinkling. Sometimes they are baptized as infants and other times as adults. This is true, and it's crucial to recognize. Your views on baptisms don't determine whether or not you're a Christian.

However, baptism is a key biblical doctrine, and we as Baptists believe that biblical baptism is done by immersion in water, and the proper candidate for baptism is a person who has repented of their sins and trusted in Christ, not an infant. For four hundred years, Baptists have sought to uphold the biblical view of baptism.

So, please understand the conclusion of the article NOT as our church's endorsement of these different beliefs about baptism. Rather, understand it as an acknowledgment that Christians have genuine disagreements about the proper mode and candidates for baptism, while still maintaining unity on the importance of the ordinance.

With that caveat given...enjoy!
